From the desk of Shaun
When I first did martial arts, I was often confused what they meant by teaching “discipline”. I always understood that word as something that was done to students in school.
It wasn’t until a few years ago I learned there’s a secondary definition to the word. Discipline is an act. The act of doing what you NEED to do, even when you don’t feel like it.
Now getting motivation is great. Like Zig Ziggler once said, we need it daily. While there’s nothing wrong with it, we can’t be dependent on it forever. It would be like me going to church only to get lifted when I have a bad day; I use it as a crutch to feel good instead of getting the word.
Discipline is something that stays so long as we put the work in. It’s a mental thing that helps us to grow in many areas of our life. I have discipline sometimes and I lack it many times. It’s a work in progress but it’s better than sitting around doing nothing.
If it wasn’t for my want and NEED to be financially free, I would still be in Texas right now, living paycheck to paycheck. I still do but i’m closer to my goals now than ever before.
It took me 15 years to get out of bum mentality. I have my days where i’m ready to be where I want to be but when I sit down and think, i’m glad i’m not there yet.
Discipline takes time to develop. My first 30 day video challenge developed the discipline to upload more videos. That same month, I made a challenge to do 100 push ups a day. I ended that month doing 3000 sit ups!!
These challenges developed the discipline to have better habits.
